At ezCater, one of our Culture Recipe ingredients is Drive Diversity, Ensure Equity, Ingrain Inclusion, and it represents our commitment to building an employee population that reflects the diversity of our community, customers, and catering partners. We strive to create an environment where everyone can be themselves, is given equitable opportunities to succeed, knows the importance of their contributions, and feel like they matter and are accepted here.
This is our seventh year surveying and publishing diversity and inclusion data since signing the White House Tech Inclusion Pledge in 2016. Since 2019, we have used Culture Amp to give us a deeper look into our survey responses while maintaining anonymity.
What does Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion mean to us?
We define Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as the efforts to:
- Create an environment where everyone feels comfortable bringing their full selves to work and knows the importance of their contributions
- Treat all employees equitably with regard to pay, promotions, support, and opportunities to succeed
- Build an employee population that reflects the diversity of our community and our customers
Before we dive in to our key survey results, here are some definitions:
- “Tech” includes our product, design, analytics, research, and engineering teams.
- “Sales” includes our sales people, AEs, AMs, on both the demand and supply side.
- “Customer Service” includes our internal Customer Service Agents and broader Customer Service teams; it does not include our outsourced teams.
- “Other” includes such functions as Marketing, Finance, and People.
Here are some key results from our 2022 Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion surveys:
- Increased representation of underrepresented groups to 29%, up from 23% in 2021
- Representation of women in tech remains constant at 26% from 2021 to 2022
- 87% of employees feel like they matter at ezCater, an increase of 8% year over year
- 93% of employees feel accepted being themselves, an increase of 5% year over year
What did we do in 2022 to support Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion?
We continued to learn. We worked towards 100% employee participation in the online Unconscious Bias course we offered and have reached 80% participation thus far. We also rolled out a new program: ezU x DEI, which offers hour-long learning sessions for all employees around DEI related topics.
We solidified our commitment. We added two full-time roles to our DEI team and, for the second year in a row, we have dedicated company-wide OKRs to measure our progress for our diversity, equity, and inclusion goals.
