Dallas has come a long way from its beginnings as cowboy country. As one of the fastest growing cities in the United States, it has a dining scene suited to a thriving metropolis. In fact, Zagat recently named it one of the country’s most exciting restaurant cities due to its diversity of cuisine, restaurants with spectacular design, and emphasis on food over pretense. The Dallas food scene has so much to offer eaters that we decided to highlight the city’s top restaurants for dining out and catering. Whether you feel like stepping outside for a meal or want it delivered at the office, here are our top picks.

The Dallas Food Scene by Neighborhood

Downtown

Not only is this Dallas neighborhood home to the AT&T Stadium, the Reunion Tower, and the infamous Dealey Plaza, it’s also home to a range of great eateries that cover just about every cuisine. If you’re in need of elevated Texas cuisine, try CBD Provisionswhere dishes are crafted with seasonal ingredients. Or go to Commissary for gourmet salads and exquisite baked goods. If you need to feed a crowd at work, you’ll find fajitas, a Texas favorite, at El Fenix. There’s gourmet cinnamon rolls at Cinnaholic, too, if you need a breakfast catering spread. And you can’t go wrong with the portable sandwiches at the flagship Which Wich location.

Uptown

This swanky hood offers an excess of excellent dining options. You can lunch on Southwestern classics like Caesar salad with smoky red chili dressing or Dr. Pepper-braised short ribs at Fearing’s. If you can afford to splurge on a multi-course tasting menu, dine at the renowned Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek. There you’ll find seasonal dishes like Texas-style quail with bourbon and peaches and almond tart. On a workday there are plenty of delicious options, too. Wake up to kooky doughnuts at Urban Donut, then order up offerings like pesto chicken salad–stuffed popovers and jumbo lump–crab cakes at The Dream Cafe. If the office just wants to feast on Southwestern, Village Burger Bar makes an impressive turkey burger topped with jalapeño jack cheese and avocado aioli sauce.

Deep Ellum

Head to this historic neighborhood just east of downtown to check out some of the city’s most eclectic restaurants. At Deep Ellum you can feast on hand-pulled noodles floating in hot spicy beef broth at Monkey King Noodle Company. For fresh Mediterranean flavors there’s beet hummus and rosemary-roasted lamb chops at Zatar Lebanese Tapas & Bar. Cane Rosso makes some of the best wood-fired, Neapolitan-style pizza around. Don’t shy away from good food when you’re at the office, either. For office catering, feast on California and shrimp tempura rolls bursting with avocado at SushiYaa. Fuzzy’s Taco Shop also offers an alternative to all that TexMex food with California-style tacos.

Lower Greenville

Head north to the city’s hottest nightlife district, which is now also home to many of the most fashionable restaurants. You could wash down some super-spicy Nashville hot chicken with cocktails from Rapscallion. For classic French, The Grape is a bistro crafting dishes with a Texas twist like dry-rubbed redfish with lemon white-butter sauce. Bbbop Seoul Kitchen excels in playful Korean dishes like pickled kimchi fries, crispy wings, and rice bowls. Plus, there’s seriously good catering in Lower Greenville, too. Ziziki’s is a traditional Greek taverna offering dishes like spanakopita (pastries stuffed with spinach and feta cheese) and moussaka (a dish of ground lamb and tomatoes). Uptown Thai excels in classic Southeast Asian dishes like pad thai noodles and creamy green curry. There’s also barbecue wings and pizzas from Piggie Pies.
